How eBay fees work in Canada

Final value fee. Charged on the total the buyer pays — item price plus shipping you charge (plus sales tax eBay collects, which this estimate leaves out, so real fees can run slightly higher). Most categories: 13.6% on the first $7,500 per item, then 2.35% above that. With a Basic Store or above: 12.7% on the first $2,500 in most categories. Books, movies and music are 15.3%; trading cards, comics and coins 13.25%; guitars and basses 6.7%; jewellery and watches 15% up to $5,000 then 9% on the rest; women's bags 15% up to $2,000 then 9% on the rest. Athletic shoes at a total of $150 or more are a flat 8% with no per-order fee.

Per-order fee. $0.30 on orders of $10 or less, $0.40 above $10. There is no separate card or PayPal fee — eBay runs payments itself and it is inside the final value fee.

Listing fees. Your first 250 listings a month are free; after that, extra listings cost a small insertion fee whether they sell or not. Not included here, because it is a monthly cost, not a per-sale one.

International fee. If the buyer is outside Canada and you are not using eBay International Shipping: 0.4% for US buyers, 1% for other countries.

Tax on fees. GST/HST is charged on eBay's fees based on your province. Sellers registered for GST/HST claim it back as an input tax credit, which is why the default here is 0%.
